Multiple sections allow flow of contestants to move efficiently thus providing riders with the opportunity to run the course with minimal delays and keeps the audience’s attention.
GS GIANTS TRACK RULES
Scoring is different for every event and will be explained by the Chief Judge at the riders meeting and may be published prior to the event, however the following basic rules are applied.
- Track is defined as the area in which the rider will follow a predesignated route to successfully complete the event.
- Sections are grouped challenges which follow in close proximity to each other.
- Multiple events may be scored by the same judge.
SLOW RACE:
- The track is set up on level ground using 4 lanes, 6’ wide and 40’ long.
- No displacement category, trials bikes are excluded
- Riders may sit or stand
- Judge will be in plain view of the contestants at the end of the course.
- Once started, the following are cause for disqualification
- Going outside your lane
- Dabbing one or both feet
- Touching another rider or motorcycle
- Winners will be paired with other winners to reduce the field to one individual
- Grudge matches may be offered at the completion of the competition but will not affect the main event.
BARREL RACE
- The track is set up using plastic 55 gallon drums or similar size obstacles.
- The barrels are placed approximately 40’ apart
- A starting line is designated ½ way between the barrels, which is obvious to riders. Riders are placed opposite of each other in opposite directions on either side of the judge.
- Course direction is counterclockwise.
- The judge will stand at the start line and ensure each of the riders is aware of the rules. At that time, the judge will count down from 3. A start whistle or other similar aural stimulator will be used to start the race.
- Contestants will proceed around the course for 3 laps. At the end of the 3 laps the judge will determine who advanced the most compared to the other rider. In the event a rider overtakes or appears to be overtaking his competitor the judge will end the event. The same aural stimulator will be used to end the event.
- Winning contestants will be then paired with other winners to reduce the field down to one individual.
- Grudge matches may be offered at the completion of the competition but will not affect the main event.
Hill Climb, Trials and the GS Giants Track
- All events are “challenge by choice.” It is the rider’s choice to attempt an obstacle or not. Choosing to bypass a section shall not be grounds for disqualification.
- Riders must attend the riders meeting and pre-ride track walk. Riders who miss the meeting and track walk will not be allowed to compete.
- All tracks, courses, and obstacles are off limits and shall not be used prior to the start of competition. Violators will be disqualified from competing.
- Each section is given a ten (10) point value
- Point deductions are given for but not limited to the following infractions.
a. Dabs -1
b. Stalls -5 (unless restarted without a dab)
c. Drops -5
d. Out of Bounds -10 - Each course is different and last-minute adjustments are authorized by the judge to ensure safe, fair and equitable scoring. Scoring changes will be announced prior to the first contestant riding the course unless safety is involved.
- When an overall prize is to be awarded scoring is different based on the size of the motorcycle ridden. Due to the difficulty of maneuvering larger motorcycles, larger motorcycles are given a score multiplier. For the purposed of this document, trials bikes are not considered. Motorcycle size and scoring multipliers are as follows:
a. Small up to 600cc x1
b. Medium up 601 to 900cc x1.33
c. Large 901cc and above x1.66 - For our younger riders, we may offer those under the age of 18 the opportunity to compete in their own class. Some events last longer than one day, if an individual has a birthday after the start of the event, he/she is still considered to be under the age of 18.
- Each contestant is given a number. This number must always be plainly visible while competing.
- All judges score sheets will be gathered by the chief judge and scores will be tallied. Events normally have multiple sections, and the chief judge compiles the data and ensures each rider’s run is tallied appropriately according to bike size. Following a competition time shall be allowed for the judges to compile the date and determine a winner.
- Prizes shall be awarded to the winner of each class. Classes with more than 10 riders should have prizes for second and third place. Event coordinators are encouraged to have more awards including some fun prizes for best recovery, best dressed, etc.
